A wise man once wrote, “The beginning is important in all things.”
Given that, this point is an important one indeed for The Parasomnic Chronicles. Although the series itself may have begun back in June 2016 when I wrote the first words of The Little Clockwork Girl, this post marks the day upon which the first of its stories are at last released. This, then, is not the beginning of the series for me. But it can be the beginning of it for you.
Three stories have been released this day: The Little Clockwork Girl, The Death of Us, and The Sea’s Own. Each of them, in keeping with the theme and style of the series, can be read in any order relative to the others. Indeed, in these first stories there is nothing really connecting them together aside from the title of the series. But as the Chronicles expands, the recurring themes and threads of its world may begin to reveal themselves.
From this beginning, then, what is to be expected?
This year, I intend to release one additional short story (which presently carries the working title of A Good Mother) as well as the Chronicles’ first novella (which is intended to be called The Weeping Gardens). Additionally, I hope to write some shorter stories (each a few thousand words or less in length) to post here on the blog for free to help explore corners of the Chronicles’ vast world which the main stories can only briefly touch upon.
This blog shall also be home to other news about the Chronicles, including announcements of new releases and behind-the-scenes looks at the writing process. I may also, from time to time, post other musings on the topics of storytelling and creativity. I welcome any readers who want to keep up with the latest posts to subscribe to the blog using your feed reader of choice. If you don’t use a feed reader, then you can instead sign up for the email newsletter for less frequent updates which focus mainly on new releases in the series.
So. What else does the future hold?
I’m not entirely certain. There are always new ideas. A hundred stories on my mind, a novel in the works, early thoughts of audiobooks or physical releases. But which of these will come to fruition first is hard to say. Most likely, it will be something I’ve not yet even dreamt of. And personally, I’m excited to find out what it is.
I hope that, after getting a taste of the Chronicles’ world with these first three stories, you are excited to find out with me.
